LinkedIn: Are you getting a full Job Slot?
Flat Fee Recruiter FAQs Job Boards Explained LinkedIn Recruitment AdviceWhen a recruitment advertising provider says your vacancy will appear on LinkedIn, what does that actually mean?
It may sound like a simple question, but there are several ways a vacancy can appear on LinkedIn and they do not all provide the same visibility, promotion or candidate reach.
Understanding the difference matters.
If LinkedIn forms an important part of your recruitment campaign, you need to know what you are actually buying.
Five ways a vacancy can appear on LinkedIn:
1. Status or social post.
A social post shares a link to your vacancy from a personal profile or company page.
This can support your employer brand and help the role reach people who already follow or interact with your organisation. However, it is not a LinkedIn job listing and will not appear in LinkedIn’s dedicated job search.
Its visibility is also likely to be short-lived as newer content moves through people’s feeds.
2. Aggregated or basic job post.
Some vacancies are pulled into LinkedIn from external sources such as job boards, applicant tracking systems or careers sites.
This gives the role a presence within LinkedIn Jobs, but it does not necessarily mean the vacancy is being actively promoted. It may have basic search visibility without the enhanced candidate targeting associated with a paid product.
3. Free LinkedIn job post.
An employer may be able to publish a vacancy directly on LinkedIn without paying to promote it.
A free listing can appear in job search and receive applications, but its visibility may reduce over time, particularly when it is competing against promoted roles.
It provides a basic LinkedIn presence, but not the continuous promotion available through a full Job Slot.
4. Promoted job post.
A promoted job post uses a daily or total advertising budget to increase its reach.
While the budget is active, LinkedIn can market the role to relevant candidates and give it greater exposure than a free listing. However, that enhanced visibility is tied to the available spend.
LinkedIn explains that when a daily budget is reached, a job is removed from active marketing until the budget refreshes. When a total budget is exhausted, the job promotion automatically pauses unless more budget is added. Depending on the budget arrangement, a paused vacancy may no longer be visible to jobseekers.
PPC promotion can therefore be useful for a short, controlled campaign, but employers should understand that its enhanced reach is budget-dependent.
5. Full LinkedIn Job Slot.
A LinkedIn Job Slot is a premium recruitment product designed for employers with ongoing or important hiring needs.
Roles placed in a Job Slot are automatically promoted without the employer having to monitor a daily advertising budget. LinkedIn describes Job Slots as targeting relevant jobseekers through search results, personalised emails, newsfeeds and mobile notifications. They can also provide candidate recommendations based on the criteria in the job post.
LinkedIn also states that vacancies assigned to Job Slots can benefit from top-of-search results, job recommendations and other premium placements.
Put simply, a Job Slot provides premium, always-on promotion while the vacancy remains assigned to the active slot.

Why does this matter?
A recruitment advertiser may truthfully say that your vacancy will “appear on LinkedIn” without providing a full LinkedIn Job Slot.
The vacancy might only be:
-
-
-
-
Shared as a social post
-
Imported as a basic listing
-
Published as a free job
-
Promoted temporarily through a limited PPC budget
-
-
-
Each option has a place, but they are not interchangeable.
If your campaign depends on reaching relevant candidates throughout the advertising period, temporary promotion may not be enough. Once the allocated PPC budget has been used, the enhanced marketing can stop, even if you are still recruiting.
A Job Slot provides greater continuity. Your vacancy remains actively promoted while it occupies the slot, without relying on a diminishing click budget.
What should you ask your recruitment advertising provider?
Before choosing a package, ask exactly how your vacancy will be advertised on LinkedIn.
Useful questions include:
-
-
-
-
Will my vacancy be placed in a genuine LinkedIn Job Slot?
-
Will it appear in LinkedIn Job Search?
-
Will LinkedIn actively promote it to relevant candidates?
-
Is its enhanced visibility dependent on a daily or total PPC budget?
-
What happens when that budget is exhausted?
-
How long will the vacancy remain actively promoted?
-
Is LinkedIn exposure included in the quoted price or charged separately?
-

Clear answers will help you compare recruitment packages properly, and not simply compare whether the LinkedIn logo appears in a provider’s list of advertising channels.

“Your role advertised on LinkedIn” can mean several very different things.
A status update is not a job listing. A basic listing is not necessarily promoted. A promoted PPC job is only actively marketed while sufficient budget remains. A full LinkedIn Job Slot offers premium, continuous promotion for the period in which the role occupies the slot.
When comparing recruitment advertising providers, look beyond the platform logos. Ask what product is being used, how long promotion lasts and what happens when the budget runs out.
With Flat Fee Recruiter, you can access the full Job Slot: not simply a temporary or basic form of LinkedIn visibility.
